supposed to be a hot one today so i got out early. the new bike got taken for its first real ride today. did zion rd and then back up long hill after riding around in the mountain for a bit. this is a first for me. after coming down the hill, i chose to climb back up again. proof that i am in fact getting stronger :)

the scotts(new bike) performance was good. it took me 2 less minutes to climb up zion and coming back down went 4mph faster. it did feel harder going up, but this may have been in my head. knowing there was no more gears to go into to make it easier i had to grind it out at times. but this will work me harder and in the end make me better;

ive become so lazy about posting. the few rides ive been taking lately have had some good results. broke my best time 2 days in a row headed to somerville. then tonight, took 30 seconds off my time trial time for the bike club!

the new bike stills feels good and the soreness in my rear has gone away after a few rides. the gears are quite different from the cannondale and it will take some time for me to find a good cruising one. but i do know that the high gear is FAST!

it is now official that i have a collection of bikes. picked up my new 2005 scott cr1 team road bike today! it is all set to go for tomorrow so long as my cold keeps going away. this bike scares me quite a bit. the same thing happened after getting the cannondale but this is different. carbon frame. this bike is a machine. weighs less than 19 pounds. my bad luck seemed to turn upside down after getting this bike for $500 less after the original buyer left the deposit and never came back. the bike was a steal. pics;

looks fast right,

just to work and back today. took the cannondale hoping to get in some miles after work but what a day at work! the air conditioning broke making it 95 degrees inside. it was a pretty long day and my legs were tired. ill do the same tomorrow hoping to ride. no time trials this week and possible no race either. have no money and just feel tired this week. my diet kinda sucks lately and i hate it. this has been a problem for years and it upsets me. just have to stay focused i guess.

i keep on wanting to climb zion mountain. took a new route up the hill today that was a challange. my legs were heavy and it cause me to bail out to the third ring half way up the hill. but the chain poppped off! that hasnt happened since making a mistake while shifting. so i had to hope off the bike to pop it back on. the rest bought me fresh legs and the rest of the ride though a challange was do-able.

those new shoes are making a difference. the ability to pull and push harder up the hills and on straights makes a hugh difference. although my odometer is all screwed up, it seems that im faster with these, or im just getting stronger? who knows. all in all though the shoes were a smart buy and a good price too :) probably going to take a rest day. just a ride to work and back.

over the past few days i got a couple new cycling things...

new shoes!

and new socks!(think rocky IV)

july 13, 2006

raced again with the group. couple things; firstly, i knocked someone off their bike :( in the sprint at the end i was in the lead and saw someones shadow coming up to my left so i started to move over that way to cut them off. my intended slow move turned into me flying over to my left. the riders tire who was behind me clipped my back tire and they went right over. i felt bad about it and was concerned but thankfully he had only cuts and road rash. but still, i did the wrong thing and hope i learned a lesson. after we finished i talked with him and some other riders and they assured me that even though i made a mistake that there was no hard feelings. im glad the people who ride there are understanding like that because it would have sucked to not be able to go back.

next is my odometer. it is inaccurate! it is running slow! meaning all the miles i have been posting and thinking ive been passing happened about 100 miles before hand! also, my average speed and max speed are low as well! damn technology, only good when it works. so i will be in the market for a new one soon. but i think ill wait til i get a new bike first :)

and lastly, i came in second! so thats it. im not going to post all the ride info anymore since it isnt true. but long rides, times and good stuff like that will still be posted.

rode with eric again today doing a mostly flat course. great ride though and we kept our speed higher than the past (getting stronger i hope). the big news is that the 1000 mile mark has come and gone for me. may get out tomorrow after work but lately post work rides do nothing but wear me out. but today i had a lot of energy;

rode with eric today and did some more climbing. have to admit that as much as zion mountain is a challenge it would be nice to have another things to climb around here. we went up the longhill rd side of it and made pretty good time. learned that using my third gear (the small ring on the front gears)is only a bail out when you are burnt out. so from now on my climbs will be different. did a small sprint too. overall, great ride;

there have been a few more rides since the last post but i forget how many. had a time trial that i did well in 20:04, have riden around a bit as well. yesterday had a really good ride and ended up getting lost and attacked by a small dog! it only bit my shoe so there was no damage. :) big news though is the 1000 mile mark is less than 50 away! yesterdays ride had good climbs;

rode to work and rode around after work then back home today. legs felt tired after work but on the way there my fastest time was broken. took 42 seconds off my previous time. after work i headed to the park and did some sprints/rests. headed back and took my time with sprints here and there. overall it was a decent ride but it would have been better if i didnt have to work. ride;

too long with out riding lead me to not being able to finish the thursday race. the pace was fast and i made a bunch of mistakes which were brought to my attention after the race. 1. speading up when taking the the lead on the pace line(called the 'pull'). when it was my turn to pull instead of keeping my pace, i speed up. this burnt me out especially on climbs. but i learned some things and hope next week will be better. ride;
